How to Install a DVD Burner in your laptop?

1. Exit any applications you may have running and turn off your computer. Disconnect any devices from your Pavilion's interface ports. Unplug the power cord and network cable (if attached). Disconnect any remaining cords and eject any installed memory cards. Close the display.

2. Turn the laptop over and examine its underside. Locate the battery release latch and slide it to the unlocked position; the battery will release from the laptop's body. Remove the battery and set it aside.

3. Locate the hard drive compartment cover. Remove the screws securing the cover in place and set them aside. Remove the cover from the hard drive compartment. Detach the hard drive from the laptop and remove it from the compartment (some models may come with a Mylar tab attached; grip the tab and slide the drive away from its connector). Set the hard drive aside.

4.  Locate and remove the screw(s) securing the installed optical drive to the laptop's body. Slide the drive out of the laptop; on some models, you may need to use a straightened paper clip to open the drive's disc tray (insert the clip into the small hole on the front face of the drive and push it inwards) and then use the tray as a grip. If the drive has a cable attached, disconnect it, then attach it to your replacement drive prior to installation.

5.  Insert your replacement drive into the Pavilion's optical drive bay. Push it inwards until it feels properly seated. Use the previously removed screws to secure the drive to the laptop's body.6

Reinsert the hard drive into the hard drive compartment and slide it onto its connector until it is properly seated. Replace the hard drive compartment cover and use the previously removed screws to secure it in place. Reinsert the battery into the battery bay.

6. Reinsert the hard drive into the hard drive compartment and slide it onto its connector until it is properly seated. Replace the hard drive compartment cover and use the previously removed screws to secure it in place. Reinsert the battery into the battery bay.

7. Reattach all previously disconnected cables and devices. Open the display and press the power button; the drive is now ready for use.
